Your other Mustang memories will be gone in 60 seconds!

1965 Mustang (page 1 of 2)        Owner:  Tony Valenta        Last updated 06-12-06

Tony's Mustang showed up at Karg's Hot Rod Service after progress at another shop slowed.  Tony brought her to our stable to get this wild mustang road ready.

When Tony's car arrived at our shop some body work had been done and some areas were cut in with Lexus pearl tri-coat.  Most of those areas will be refinished.  Other than that not a lot of finished work had been done previously.

We started by cleaning up the engine compartment and preparing to beef up the front end. Then we installed coil over shocks and tubular adjustable upper and lower control arms and Bear brakes.  Every successful project should start with a good "foundation". Tony chose American Racing Torque-Thrust 2's, big on the front and bigger in the rear. Traction will be provided through BFG G-Force T/A's.

Backspacing front and rear was very important due to the limited space provided in the fender wells.  We called Paul Atkins in Culman, AL for advice and all backspacing issues were resolved.

The Engine Compartment will be clean and remain stock in appearance with a lot of the humps and bumps you would find under the hood of a 65' Mustang.  Although we are going to shine it up a bit.
347 small block in all its stroked, fuel injected, painted & polished glory with a little nitrous for some zing!
Get a look at the stock 1965 sheet metal... because things are about to change.

The outside is not alone in this project.  The interior will also receive a lot of attention.  Ignition, nitrous oxide,  brake and fuel system  components and controls will need to be  integrated into the interior as well.

With all the added bling on the engine & the shoe-horn fit we did not want to put the motor in more than once.  So, we test ran the engine prior to installation. (All Systems Go!) Tony Valenta and Jack Karg Posing and apparently feeling pretty confident about the first attempt to crank this baby over.
Unhappy with the shape she was born with, Tony opted for some fiberglass enhancement.  Don't worry some of the swelling will go down in a week or two.
Not only will the 65' get the flare treatment, we also filled the seams on the rear tail light extensions and welded the lower valance to the  bottom of the quarters.  Front & rear chrome bumpers will remain although they will be cleaned of all bolt holes and will have a closer fit.
The rear valance exhaust holes will disappear and side exit exhaust will take over. We may have made it look easy in the photo but the side exit exhaust setup was more difficult than it looks.  The flares were just one part of the equation.  Underneath, the exhaust had to exit through the frame and rocker so they would not hang below the car.

After the giving the engine compartment the full treatment of sanding, epoxy primer, fill primer, and more sanding, it was dressed up a bit with the Lexus tri-coat Pearl White.

The exterior gets a finish coat of primer and it's off to the other shop for non paint related work.
